     Nairobi, June 25th, 2012: Kenya Airways Limited (Kenya Airways) today announced that its Board of Directors had approved the award of the mandate to arrange the aircraft financing for the purchase of nine (9) new Boeing 787-800s (Dreamliners) (B787s), one (1) Boeing 777-300ER (B777-300ER), and ten (10) Embraer -190 aircraft (E-190s) to the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank). The mandate was awarded to the Afreximbank following due consideration and assessment of several financing bids received pursuant to a request for proposals (RFPs) issued by Kenya Airways in March 2012.

    The financing package consists of a pre-delivery payments (PDPs) facility and an aircraft delivery finance facility to fund the delivery of the B787s, B777-300ER, and the E190s.

  • Kenya Airways Rights shares start trading at Nairobi Securities Exchange

     Thursday, June 19, 2012…..New shares issued by national carrier Kenya Airways in the Rights Issue that ended April 30, commenced trading this morning at the Nairobi Securities Exchange. 

    The 1,034,853,551 additional shares issued by Kenya Airways at a price of Ksh14 per share brings the total number of shares issued by the airline 1,496,469,034. The cash call netted Ksh14.487 Billion against a target of Ksh 20.68 Billion. The proceeds will go to financing pre-delivery payments for a fleet of nine Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner aircraft, the first of which is expected to join the airline fleet in 2014. 

    Speaking during the bell-ringing ceremony to signify start of trading in the Rights Issue shares, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance, Mr. Joseph Kinyua, said the fact that the Rights Issue garnered over 70% subscription rate in a difficult market environment was testimony to the confidence that shareholders including the government continue to have in the airline.

     Airline optimizing capacity as it opens new destinations, increases frequencies on existing routes

    June 12, 2012….Kenya Airways has announced changes to its Summer Schedule. Key highlights include suspension of flights to Muscat and Rome effective immediately until further notice due to capacity optimization across the network.

    The airline has introduced a new direct flight to Dubai which will operate three times a week with late evening departures from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to capture the late connecting traffic arriving into Nairobi. This is in addition to the daily Dubai service that the airline operates. The airline will now operate 10 non-stop flights to Dubai.

  • Kenya Airways strengthens regional presence with new flights to Kilimanjaro & Eldoret

     May 30, 2012…….National carrier Kenya Airways has announced the launch of flights to two new destinations - Kilimanjaro in Northern Tanzania and Eldoret in Kenya’s Rift Valley - beginning July.

    The airline will, from July 2, fly to Kilimanjaro International Airport and twice daily to Eldoret starting July 4. The launch of the new destinations is expected to strengthen the airline’s presence in the region.

    Kenya Airways will operate narrow body Embraer E170 aircraft on the Eldoret route with KQ 660 and KQ661 departing from Nairobi and Eldoret at 0740hrs and 0910hrs respectively. In the evening, KQ664 will depart Nairobi at 1715hrs whilst KQ665 departs from Eldoret at 1900hrs.

    NAIROBI, KENYA – April 2, 2012 – Kenya Airways has selected the GEnx-1B engine to power its nine firm Boeing 787 Dreamliners with an option for four additional aircraft.

    Speaking at a press briefing in Nairobi today, Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Dr. Titus Naikuni said the airline had settled on the GEnx-1B engine as GE had designed the engines to provide a base thrust of 70,000 lbs. to power the state-of-the-art Dreamliner aircraft for which the airline has placed nine firm orders with an option to buy four more.

    Kenya Airways releases its operating results for the third quarter ended 31st Dec 2011.
    The company put into the market place capacity totalling 3,560m seat kilometres which was 6.5% better than last year’s level as a result of increased frequencies to several destinations and the launch of Jeddah operations in the third quarter.
    Capacity offered into Europe registered a 14.9% growth compared to the same quarter of prior year due to introduction of flights to Rome and double daily weekend flights to London. The capacity into Middle East, Far East and India regions remained at par compared to same period last year.
