Kenya Airways Awarded Safety Certification
Nairobi 26th October, 2007
Kenya Airways has been awarded a 2 year renewal on its IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) registration. This renewal expires on 21st October 2009 and was awarded following an audit conducted by an IATA-accredited Audit Organisation this year.
Expressing his delight upon receiving this news, CEO Titus Naikuni said that, “this is no mean achievement and is testimony to the hard work of all our members of staff.” IOSA registration is an IATA initiative that aims to promote and enhance safety in the aviation industry. Kenya Airways was the first Sub-Saharan carrier to receive this registration in 2005.
Launched in September 2003, IOSA is quickly becoming the global audit standard for airline operational safety. Audit standards have been developed using ICAO standards and industry best practices and also in close cooperation with leading regulatory bodies such as the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Transport Canada and Europe’s JAA, amongst others.
An IOSA registered airline has to maintain strict conformity with IOSA requirements across its entire operation. Naikuni reiterated his organisations commitment to safety saying that, “we will not rest on the laurels of having received this renewal. We will continue to instil a safety culture in our staff, our systems and operations.”
Kenya Airways which marks 30 years of its existence this year operates one of Africa’s most modern fleet. With a fleet of 23 aircraft, Kenya Airways serves over 2.6 million passengers annually and flies to more than 43 destinations worldwide.
