Kenya Airways Statement
Friday, October 09, 2009: Kenya Airways would like to inform its passengers, customers, investors and the public of a rejected takeoff on KQ512 to Bamako, Mali and Dakar, Senegal at 0940 hours at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The aircraft did not leave the ground.
The incident was caused by a tyre deflation.
There were 97 passengers and 8 crew members on-board but there were no reported injuries. All passengers and crew on-board have been transferred to the terminal building and are being transferred to the hotel for the day. All the passengers are safe and Kenya Airways has launched investigation regarding the incident.
There was no damage to the aircraft except for the tyre. The runway was temporary closed for inspection and cleaning and was reopened at 1050 hours.
In the meantime, Kenya Airways would like to thank all its customers for their continued support.
